Canvas Prints- Pop Art Prints
3rd April 2013
Pop Art is a term that you’ve probably heard of, with artists such as Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein making their names through the movement. When it began, Pop Art was a reaction to the growing consumerism of society and a rebellion against Abstract Expressionism. Emerging in Britain in the mid 1950s and in America in the late 1950s, it is a movement that manifested itself differently on either side of the pond, but had the same essential themes. Artists drew images and techniques from popular mass culture such as film stars (think Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe), comic books (Roy Lichtenstein’s Drowning Girl), advertising, television and magazines. Taking them out of context as objects of culture and poking fun at them to offer the question- is everything just an image to be consumed?
Pop Art Today
The Pop Art movement continues today, with artists such as Banksy and Wilde using graffiti stencils to create art that makes you stop and think, just like the original Pop Art movement did when it first emerged almost sixty years ago. Images from advertising and mainstream culture still remain in artwork today, offering a comment on consumption and connecting with people in an everyday way.
Pop Art Collection from Canvas Republic
Our collection here at Canvas Republic has a wide variety of modern Pop Art canvases. Of particular interest is the stencil graffiti work by Banksy and Wilde, and the use of commercial images from advertising with the Coca-Cola dotted print, and the widely recognised image of Che Guevara.
The graffiti work is often striking, as Banksy, in particular, uses images used by the media to convey a different perspective on the issue. Not often political, his artwork does however convey an attitude that rebels against societal norms.
The classic car prints in our collection may not seem Pop Art-esque at first glance, but on deeper inspection and thought you can see that it is. The style uses images similar to those used in car adverts, with bold primary colours. These pieces do not make a political statement making them more accessible to everyone.

5 Part Canvas Sets & Large Canvas Art for Scenic Shots
13th March 2013
Consider yourself to be a bit of a photography expert? Don’t we all? If you’re the self confessed geeky owner of a camera tripod, you’re probably more than familiar with a holiday sunset photo opp. Oh yes, we love a good scenic shooting opportunity here at Canvas Republic and if you do too, you will appreciate the beauty of 5 print canvas sets and large canvas art for the home.
Canvas art is a great way to display your favourite scenic shots, whether it’s shot by yourself, a friend or a famous photographer. They give any beautiful landscape image an added dimension by breaking one piece of art into, well essentially, five. Give it a go – if you’re an art fan, you’ll definitely agree that it brings bog standard room decor to life.
So what do you see for your latest canvas creation? The breath-taking Amalfi Coast? The Alaskan Seward Highway? A Cambodian sunset overlooking the reflective pool at Angkor Wat? For photography enthusiasts and travel geeks alike, a large canvas art display is such a great way of sharing something you love.
So you’re sold on the photo canvas idea. But if you’re going to get out there with your own SLR, what are the best images to capture for your own living breathing work of art? Some of the best scenic imagery for 5 part canvas prints include (well we love these anyway):
• Sunset and sunrise photos – capture those warm and awe inspiring hues of oranges, reds and yellows, or maybe even pinks and purples.
• World wonders – they say that there are 7 wonders of the world but we all know that there are so many more out there. If you’re lucky enough to see the world’s “wonders” don’t forget to take a panoramic snapshot.
• Twilight – what a beautiful time of day. Twilight shots take precision and absolute stillness in camera handling and they make a striking 5 part canvas display if you’re looking for cooling hues.Check out our
